What is the difference between 32.5N and 42.5N cement?
The number refers to the compressive strength of the cement after 28 days, measured in MPa (Megapascals). The "N" means Normal strength gain.
32.5N is suitable for general building — plastering, brickwork, and standard construction.
42.5N is a higher-strength grade for structural and heavy-duty work like foundations, columns, and high-rise buildings.
What is the difference between Portland Cement and Portland Pozzolanic Cement?
Portland Cement (like KP-Diamond) is made primarily from clinker and is the stronger, faster-curing option — ideal for structural work.
Portland Pozzolanic Cement (like KP-Silver, KP-Gold, and KP-Super Gold) blends clinker with natural pozzolana, giving it a lower carbon footprint, better workability, and good long-term durability. It's well suited for general construction and finishing.
Which cement is best for foundations in Kenya?
For foundations, use a 42.5N grade — either KP-Diamond or KP-Super Gold.
Both meet the strength requirements for load-bearing structures and are tested to KS EAS 18-1:2017 standards.
Which cement is best for plastering and finishing?
KP-Platinum or KP-Silver are ideal for plastering and finishing work.
Both are 32.5N grade and designed for smooth, consistent application on interior and exterior walls.
How do I know which Nyumba Cement is right for my project?

Is cement cheaper when bought in bulk?
Yes. Buying in bulk — either palletised 50kg bags by truck or loose cement via our bulkers — typically offers better pricing than purchasing individual bags. For large projects, bulk delivery is also more efficient.

Is Nyumba Cement KEBS certified?
Yes. All Nyumba Cement products are certified by the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) and carry the Standardization Mark (S-Mark), confirming they meet Kenya's mandatory quality and safety requirements for construction materials.
Where can I find the test certificates for Nyumba Cement?
All product test reports — including independent Ministry of Roads & Transport lab reports and Mombasa Cement internal test reports — are available to download on our Certifications page.

Cement Storage
How should I store cement bags on site?
Store bags off the ground on a raised platform, covered with a waterproof sheet, and away from moisture. Cement absorbs humidity quickly — once a bag hardens or clumps, it has lost strength and should not be used.
Do I need a silo to store bulk cement?
Yes — if you're ordering loose bulk cement delivered by bulker, you will need a silo on site to receive and store it. A silo keeps the cement dry, airtight, and ready to use.
If you don't have a silo, our palletised 50kg bag option is a practical alternative that doesn't require a silo!
How long can cement be stored before it expires?
Cement has a shelf life of approximately 3 months from the date of manufacture when stored correctly.
